Floyd said he will be buried in Houston next to his mother Fort Bend Memorial Center for Planning.
The public is invited to attend the visit from noon until 6 pm. Local time, said Latoria Lemon, the funeral spokeswoman.
“We expect around 10,000 and that’s what we’re preparing for,” she said.
To comply with the rules of social separation, 15 guests will be allowed at one time to enter the “Praise Fountain”. Guests will be allowed to stay indoors for no more than 10 minutes after watching the body. Guests are required to wear a mask and gloves, and informal clothing is permitted.
Floyd’s connection to Houston: Floyd, 46, grew up in the city’s third wing. He graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1992, where he helped the soccer team win the state title. Lemon said he played basketball there.
Before moving to Minneapolis, Floyd was well known in the music scene in Houston, where he sang a group called Screwed Up Clik (SUC).
Floyd’s body is already in Houston, according to Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo.
On Sunday, he said, “# Georgefield and his family are safe in Houston.”
“His repatriation was a big problem for our city,” Acevedo said. “He is well known, and many of our officers know him. We want to make sure that the family is safe and that the movement is safe. We want to make sure the family knows we are here for them and we support them at this time.”
