George Floyd’s remains reach Houston

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of London on Sunday to support the “Black Life” movement, and gathered outside the US embassy in a show of solidarity with George Floyd, who was killed by police officers in Minneapolis in May.

The protesters, marching in the capital, gathered on Sunday, chanting “the question of black life”, and carrying many banners and posters conveying the same message. One of the protesters is standing outside the US embassy, ​​holding a sign reading: “Black lives outperform yourself, Mr. President.”

In a symbolic tribute to Floyd, who died after police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the protesters stood silently for eight minutes while kneeling.

Others were also seen carrying out a “dead” demonstration alongside police officers who were standing in a row outside the embassy building.

While the UK government has urged citizens not to demonstrate because of fears that the protest will lead to further spread of the coronavirus, the protest has seen a large turnout.

Little social divergence has been observed – due to the high turnout – but many protesters wear masks or face covers, while organizers say volunteers in high-visibility vests will distribute masks and water to the protesters.
