“George Floyd was not a consumer. That is why we are here,” Rep. Green, a Texas Democrat, said at the funeral.

He completed: “His crime was that he was a black boy. This was his only crime. George Floyd deserves the dignity and respect that we give to all people because they are sons of a common god and it is very unfortunate to be here, but we celebrate the life of George Floyd today.”

During his speech, Green raised a box containing a folded American flag and said: “I want the United States of America to respect George Floyd,” adding, “That’s why this flag was raised.”

Green said he would present the family with a decision that would become part of the Congressional record. “George Floyd changed the world. We will let the world know that he made a difference,” he said.

He called on the federal government to establish a reconciliation department. “We survived the separation, but we did not reconcile,” he said. “It is time for the reconciliation department on the top of the earth.”
